We want to thank those brave men and women who fought for the freedoms we hold dear. Happy Memorial Day!
In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae (1872-1918)
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Have a great loooong weekend everyone!
We have had so many people contact us this week with the same concern: They want to make their oral health a priority, but it’s been a long time since they last visited a dentist. It’s ok. We get it. We understand. Our team is just a bunch of moms trying to do our best. We know life happens and you’ll never get anything but understanding from us. If it’s been awhile since you’ve had a check-up, cleaning, or dental issue you’d like to have looked at, we’re here for you and we’d be honored to be a trusted member of your health care team! You can reserve a time that works best for you by visiting us online at https://thedentalloftdm.com/#ScheduleNow

Instead of worry and fear, ask:
How can I help serve?
Who can I virtually hug?
What burden do I need to surrender?
What good is in this?
How can I stay focused on the positive?
Sending love to all of our patients! ❤️ We miss you and pray you’re staying healthy and safe!
🤔🤣 Stay home. Stay safe.

The facts and situation around coronavirus and COVID-19 continue to change. On Saturday, Governor Reynolds notified the public of our first case of community spread, that is a case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Iowa for which the source of infection is unknown. This obviously intensifies the seriousness of COVID-19 here in Iowa, particularly for us in the Des Moines area, as the case was linked to Dallas County, which includes Des Moines' western suburbs.
Even though we exceed the most stringent cleaning, sanitation, and sterilization protocols in our office, we believe that the recommendation of social distancing warrants closing for a short time. The virus is already in our community, so the focus now is to mitigate the damage from the disease. The Dental Loft will be closed starting March 16 to patients seeking elective and non-urgent care. As always, Dr. Stefanie and her team will continue to be available as needed for emergency management.
Any emergencies or urgent problems requiring attention will be addressed on a case by case basis, either in office or via teledentistry. These conditions include:
- Severe toothache
- TMJ dysfunction or pain
- Swelling of gums, face, or neck
- Bleeding in mouth that does not stop
- Infection or the risk of infection
- Trauma (such as broken teeth)
If you experience any of these conditions, please call our office.
We have not arrived at this decision lightly, and it is being done out of an abundance of caution during these uncertain times. As health care professionals, we believe we have an important role to play in slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our community and "flattening the curve" of infections in order to reduce the strain that our local hospitals are likely to experience in the days ahead. Preventing even one new infection truly has a big impact on the trajectory of the spread of this disease in our local community.
If you have questions, please reach out to Dr. Stefanie via email ([email protected]) or text (515-512-1097) so that we can address your concerns directly. We will be contacting all scheduled patients for the upcoming weeks to reschedule their appointments for a future date. We will also be extending hours when we reopen to increase availability of appointment times.
Thank you from the entire team at The Dental Loft for all of your support and understanding. It is an honor and privilege to serve your dental healthcare needs, and we look forward to seeing you all soon. We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during this time.
Check out this powerful image demonstrating the importance of washing your hands properly. Washing with soap for at least 15 seconds significantly reduces germs.
We understand your concern about COVID-19. We're concerned too, but we want our patients to know that we practice all CDC and OSHA universal precautions for infection control on a daily basis, even before this virus.
We treat everything to the highest standards for your safety and our own. We use medical masks, gloves, and eye protection to eliminate the risk of droplet and aerosol transmission during dental treatments; we clean everything with hospital-grade disinfectants as part of regular protocol after each treatment; and we utilize state-of-the-art sterilization procedures for our instruments. For years, these practices have been the backbone of the CDC's universal precautions and making sure that we follow them with each and every patient is foundational to our commitment to providing the best care for you and your family.
If you have a fever or are feeling ill, we want you to take care of yourself and get well. Please practice self-care and follow the CDC's recommendations for preventing the spread of illness to others in our community. If you have an appointment scheduled with us, we are happy to reschedule it for you. However, at this time of heightened concern, we also want you to know that because of our infection control protocols, we feel very safe to continue to stay open and care for our patients.
If you have questions about our infection control practices, please feel free to contact us at your convenience.
Did you know? Dental x-rays are a useful diagnostic tool for helping your dentist detect damage and disease not visible during a regular dental exam.
Help us fill our happy jar! What’s something that you’ve appreciated today?
Forty years ago, only 7% of dental school graduates in the U.S. were women. In 2017, according to the ADA Health Policy Institute, that percentage was up to 49%. Because of a few persistent and strong pioneers, including Lucy Beaman Hobbs Taylor, Ida Gray Nelson, Grace Rogers Spalding, & Sara Gdulin Krout, female dentists have gone from being a rarity in the field to building the profession. #HappyInternationalWomensDay!
It's National Dentist's Day and we want to show Dr. Stefanie how much we appreciate her!!
