Lansdowne Orthodontics: Navin Hukmani, DDS

"What should I do with all the bouncy balls my kids get from the treasure tower at Dr. Hukmani's office?"
After 1,065 days I got my braces off and I COULDN’T be happier!!! I had a VERY complicated case. My baby canines were still present and my permanent canines were IMPACTED on the roof of my mouth.. kissing each other behind my two front teeth... VERY impacted. I had MULTIPLE people tell me that I would have to extract the teeth and have implants placed. At the time I seeked treatment I was only 22 years old and I felt that I was too young to have to get implants without trying anything first. I then found Dr.Hukmani who gave my crazy case a chance. He broke down the different options (implants being worse case scenario) and really explained everything to me to help me make the best descision for my smile. Every visit he thanked me for his patience and reassured me that the transition process would be worse before it got better and I trusted him. His office is very clean and their staff really come together like family to help with the flow of a busy schedule. I drove over an hour just to see Dr.Hukmani and I was always brought back on time for my appointments or even earlier than my scheduled time. They all work together so well and are all so friendly and make me feel like home when I’m there. Anytime I talk to someone who needs Orthodontic treatment i ALWAYS recommend Dr.Hukmani. I’m very grateful to have had such a great experience! Thank you Dr.Hukmani for making me smile more than ever!!!!
Can’t thank Dr. Hukmani enough for our 6 year old daughter, Madison’s treatment and progress w/ the ALF appliance. After recently being diagnosed with ADHD, we didn’t want to do any prescribed medication, but at the end of our robe. I can’t tell you how this treatment has changed ALL of our lives. Her behavior has completely changed. She sleeps better. She’s more tolerant, therefore we are. I highly recommend the ALF appliance and know first hand how much it has helped Madison AND our family.
Dr. Hukamni is the best! I visited him for a consultation for replacing my very old wire retainers, and he provided me a customized plan. I am more than pleased with the results after wearing Invisalign retainers for several months and finally getting a permanent wire placed on my lower teeth. Never would I have thought I would want a permanent retainer! It is the best decision I could have made. My teeth are aligned perfectly, and I do not have to worry about my teeth shifting. Also, my hygienist and dentist both complimented his work and the placement of the permanent wire, which enables them to care for my teeth without damaging the hardware. Apparently, there is an art to placing permanent retainers correctly. :-) Dr. Hukmani and his team far exceeded my expectations. Not only are his fees reasonable, but he is also very meticulous and carefully explained all orthodontic treatment options that would yield my intended results. Thank you, Dr. Hukamani for making my smile perfect again! I now feel and look like a million bucks!
Here are my sweeties, Olivia and Gabriel. Olivia finished treatment approximately 1 year ago, and Gabriel will finish by the end of the year. What great results!! Thank you to Dr. Hukmani and all the great people at Lansdowne Orthodontics!

"Tongue thrusting" can contribute to crooked front teeth. If your tongue presses against your teeth when you swallow, ask your orthodontist about options to help with this habit.

When you have braces, it's best to avoid hard foods, sticky foods, chewing ice, and any foods that you bite with your front teeth, like unsliced apples or corn on the cob. Eating these foods might cause damage and lead your treatment to last longer!

Did you know that orthodontic devices date as far back as Ancient Egypt and Greece? Mummies have been found with devices similar to braces, and the Greeks straightened their teeth with metal bands.

Many people have to get braces again because they didn't wear their retainers! Don't make this mistake!

Overbites are very common and can lead to some issues, or difficulty chewing in some cases. The best age to treat one varies, as each child develops differently. Talk to your orthodontist about your options.

While undergoing orthodontic treatments, it is important to keep your braces or other appliances in good condition. Often, certain foods such as nuts, hard taco shells, uncooked carrots and jolly ranchers can cause problems.

Do you know what teeth protrusion is? In this type of bite, the upper teeth extend too far forward or the lower front teeth do not extend far enough forward. This can impact both the appearance and function of the teeth.

Wearing retainers as instructed is the key to maintaining the success of orthodontic treatment! If you have any questions about your retainer or how often you should be wearing it, give us a call today!

I don't want old-fashioned braces. What are my options? Thanks to advances in technology, your treatment options may include ceramic (tooth-colored) braces, lingual braces, which are placed behind the teeth, or clear aligner trays.

Here's a huge THANK YOU to our patients for being a part of our health community!

Should I floss or brush first?

Is there an ideal sequence for your oral hygiene routine? Well, according to recent studies, yes. Researchers have found that flossing before brushing may be the most efficient for a thorough removal of dental plaque. This sequence was also found to increase fluoride concentration delivered from the toothpaste, which makes your tooth enamel stronger, making it easier to resist decay.
That’s right, a simple two-step routine can not only effectively remove dental plaque and strengthen your teeth but can also help to minimize your time in orthodontic treatment. You can reap all these oral health benefits by playing your role. Your oral health care doesn’t end after you leave your dentist or orthodontist office, you are also a partner in the process.
