White spots come in all shapes and sizes. Seen in the photo above is an example of dental fluorosis which is caused by excess fluoride consumption during tooth formation.
With the use of ICON, a resin infiltration technique, the spot is able to be blended to match the rest of the affected tooth. This is a very simple procedure that may be an option for some of our patients. ICON can inspire confidence in a smile that will last a lifetime. 🦷🦷
Happy Father's Day to Dr. Chad, Dr.Tyler, and all of the awesome dads out there!! 😎
🍩HAPPY NATIONAL DONUT DAY!🍩
Our team decided it's one of our favorite days of the year! 😂❤️ @sandys.donuts #sweettreat #donutsofinstagram #sweettooth #brushyourteeth
We are celebrating two very special birthdays in our office this week!! Kari and Jael, thanks for all of your hard work and for celebrating your special day with us and our patients. We hope you enjoy your birthdays!!!
Over the next month or two, we will be posting about different “white areas” on primary and permanent teeth. We know that many parents have questions about these areas. Our first post is about “white spot lesions”. These are typically “chalky” in appearance and they usually appear near the gum line (gingiva). See the black arrow in the first picture and the yellow arrows in the second picture for an example of what white spot lesions look like. When we see these white spots, the child is considered to be at high risk for the development of cavities. The white spots can turn into a cavity fairly quickly (see the red arrow in the first picture and the green arrow in the second picture).
Don’t worry just yet as there are various ways to prevent the white spot lesions from turning into a cavity. Treatment may focus on helping the affected tooth or teeth to re-calcify with professional topical fluoride applications in our office. Topical fluoride helps strengthen the white spots. This can also be accomplished by helping your child brush their teeth with a fluoride toothpaste twice a day. Another treatment may include simply monitoring the teeth to make sure the surface remains hard and intact. With improved brushing and flossing, reduced sugar consumption (apple juice, watered down juice, chocolate milk, etc.), and maintaining a well balanced diet, these white spot lesions sometimes will not progress into a cavity. If your child has white spot lesions, consider scheduling an appointment with us to address any concerns you may have. We recommend the Age 1 Dental Visit!
We have enjoyed welcoming back all of our patients over the last two weeks! Please take a moment to review our updated policies. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Covid 19 Update
We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. Our office will be reopening for patient care on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.
Our office considers recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and our state governor. We do this to make sure that our procedures are current and adhere to each agencies’ recommendations. You may see some changes when it is time for your child’s next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
• When you arrive, our office will communicate with you before your child’s appointment to ask some screening questions.
• Please wear your own masks into our office if you have them. We would appreciate this as we need to preserve our limited PPE for our providers and team.
• You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
• Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
• We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.
• When possible, we are asking that parents, guardians, and siblings of patients remain in their vehicle in the parking lot. We understand this may not be possible in certain circumstances.
• If you are not comfortable coming to your child’s dental appointment, please call our office and we will happily reschedule the appointment. Fargo (701-478-5439) Grand Forks (701-746-1400)
We are excited to see all of our patients and their families! We also appreciate your thoughtfulness as we navigate our new reality. ❤️
Hello! We hope everyone is healthy and doing well. Per the recommendations of the North Dakota Dental Board, our offices will be closed for routine dental appointments at least through April 20th. At this time, our offices will still be seeing patients for scheduled sedation visits, hospital visits, and emergencies. Feel free to call our business offices with any questions you may have. Please continue to stay healthy by social distancing and proper hand washing. We will all get through this together! Hope to see everyone soon.

Just because we are practicing social distancing doesn't mean your toothbrush has to... and don't forget to floss!! #flosslikeaboss #smiletoday #pearlywhites #brushyourteeth 🦷😁🙌
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Dakota Pediatric Dentistry is planning to be closed (until further notice) from March 17th-April 5th per the recommendations of the ADA (American Dental Association). All patients scheduled for regular cleanings, checkups, and filling appointments will be rescheduled per the ADA recommendations. We still plan to see our sedation, general anesthesia (hospital), and emergency patients experiencing urgent pain since these are not considered routine visits.
We will be reaching out to you to reschedule these appointments as we are allowed to reschedule. Since recommendations and safety precautions are changing daily, please watch your text messages, email, and our pages for updates.
We appreciate your understanding and know this is a difficult time for everyone. Our main concern is the overall health of our patients, families, and communities. We all look forward to coming out of this stronger on the other side of things!
To our patients and families,
Here at Dakota Pediatric Dentistry our main concern and priority is always the health and safety of our patients, their families, and our team. As healthcare providers, we know that you look to us to maintain a safe and healthy environment for your families, and we take that job very seriously. We understand this is a sensitive time and want to address what is on the minds of everyone. Please keep an eye on your email as we will be sending out information regarding COVID-19 to all of our patients of record. If you do not receive an email, please feel free to call our offices.
