Stella Nashtatik DDS, Pediatric Dentist

Pediatric Dental Office 2006 Ave. M Brooklyn, New York 11210 (718) 692 3333 Dr. Stella Nashtatik is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

She is a native New Yorker who received her dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry. Stemming from a family of dentists it was a natural decision to pursue a career in dentistry. After graduating from dental school she completed two years of general practice residency at Staten Island University Hospital where she performed all various aspects of dentistry ranging from oral surgery to pediatrics. It is there that she confirmed her previous notions and that is her true love in dentistry is pediatrics. Dr. Stella stayed on to receive her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Staten Island University Hospital. She received extensive training that included providing care to children using simple behavior management to working in the operating room under general anesthesia. She completed her research in Age Distribution and Nitrous Oxide Administration in a Hospital Based Pediatric Dental Residency. Dr. Stella holds privileges at Staten Island University Hospital where she is an active attending providing clinical instruction to pediatric dental residents. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and New York State Dental Association. She is also board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Aside for her love for her work, she is a proud mother. In turn she believes that every child should be treated as she would expect her own to be treated and that is with a little tender, love and care. Every child is unique in their perception and fears, so she in turn is determined in providing the most pleasant dental experience for both the child and parent!

Also we have taken all necessary precautions prescribed by the CDC. No patients will be waiting in the waiting room, you will be escorted to the treatment room on arrival. All unnecessary tangible objects have been removed for the time being. Medical grade HEPA air purifiers have been placed in all patient areas. Vigorous sanitation is performed between all patients and throughout all office areas consistently. Taking all measures necessary to protect our patients, families and staff is important to us and so that we can treat your families in a safe environment. I look forward to seeing all our little patients!

[03/12/20]   As the situation unfolds and the spread of COVID-19 within our communities continues to mount. We are being vigilant and taking every precaution to protect our patients and staff by practicing intense hygiene and consistently sanitizing all tangible surfaces.

In order to decrease any associated risks and to protect all patients and staff we will not treat those that have traveled outside our country to zones affected by the coronavirus in the past 30 days. We also ask that you reschedule your children’s appointments if they are experiencing any symptoms of a cough, runny nose or fever.

We hope to work together to keep our community safe and healthy!

Tylenol No Longer Deemed a Pain Reliever for Babies and Toddlers –

Ibuprofen might be the go to for a toothache! FDA recommended β€œpain relief” be removed from label of Tylenol (acetaminophen) due to lack of reliable evidence that it relieves pain for babies & toddlers.

To the parents of infants and young children dealing with teething symptoms please be advised that the FDA has issued an official statement regarding the use of over the counter topical anesthetic and prescribed viscous lidocaine often used to alleviate symptoms. Although, I have never suggested the use of these products their potential side effects are now noted. Please refrain from their use and use alternative means such as teething rings and chilled teething objects to help a teething infant/toddler through this uncomfortable but natural process.
The following link will provide detailed information as to the dangerous and even potential fatal side effects.
Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions or concerns. The Food and Drug Administration will now require a Drug Safety Communication and Boxed Warning, FDA's strongest warning, for prescription oral viscous lidocaine two percent solution. This product should not be used to treat infants and children with teething pain. Oral viscous lidocaine solution is…

Wishing everyone a Safe, Healthy and Happy Halloween!!!

With Halloween coming up soon I just wanted to remind parents that there are smarter choices they can help their children make regarding the goodies collected. Although sugar is sugar, certain sweets are better than others, especially when it comes to being tooth friendly.

It is better to limit or stay away from:
#1 Sour candies create a more acidic environment in the mouth, which enhances the decay/cavity process
#2 Sticky candies such as Laffy Taffies, Tootsie Rolls and caramel type candy are filled with sugar that tends to get stuck to all surfaces of teeth and are more difficult to cleanse
#3 Hard candies and lollipops are solely sugar filled sweets kept in the mouth for prolonged periods of time, therefore increasing sugar exposure time
#4 Sugar based candy like candy corn, are filled with artificial coloring and pure corn syrup

Candy to enjoy:
#1 Chocolate – pure chocolate, especially dark chocolate is easier to cleanse and studies have reported that it may even benefit the heart
#2 Xylitol based candy or gum – xylitol is a natural occurring 5 carbon sugar that has been proven to decrease cavities and is supported by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry as a means of reducing decay
#3 Sugar free gum/candy – decay requires the presence of a carbohydrate, bacteria and tooth surface, so if there is no carbohydrate the bacteria will not have a food source

Another helpful tip is to limit the frequency of sugar consumption. The constant presence of sugar will create a more acidic environment, which promotes decay and will make it more difficult for our saliva to return to a normal pH.
With that said, limiting unhealthy snacking and including the sweets as part of meal/ dessert, will help reduce exposure time and frequency to sugar.
We would like to wish everyone a Safe, Healthy and Happy Halloween!!!
