Operating as usual
Keeps you, our team, and our community safe.
When the Covid-19 pandemic first came to the US, even before it arrived in Virginia, we made a plan and acted quickly to provide superior protection to you, our valued patients. We have adopted 2 unique, advanced precautions in addition to the mandated/recommended adjustments to our already-strict sanitation protocol.
1. Hospital OR Sterilization Protocol – Above and beyond all
recommendations from the CDC, OSHA, and our State governing body, we are following the same protocols that hospitals follow in their operating rooms (per the Facility Guidelines Institute). Our exam rooms are sterile.
2. UVC Germicidal Sterilization – Light with the ultraviolet spectrum is in all areas of our practice. It inactivates pathogens like viruses (including SARSCoV-2) and bacteria at a rate as high as 99.9%.
It’s important for us to be a leader in safety so that we can bolster your confidence as we protect you. Being #1 also allowed us to provide emergency dental care throughout this time when other practices have been shuttered.
We remain open, providing all dental care, and we remain committed to treating you.

Beside regular hygiene protocol that everyone should follow, there is one more procedure that no one has mentioned yet, that could help prevent spreading the Corona Virus
NASAL IRRIGATION. NATURAL RELIEF FOR COLD AND ALLERGY SYMPTOMS
Got a stuffy nose from allergies or a cold? Nasal irrigation may help. You pour a saltwater (saline) solution into one nostril. As it flows through your nasal cavity into the other nostril, it washes out mucus and allergens.
For nasal irrigation, you'll need a container and saline solution. You can buy prefilled containers, or use a bulb syringe or neti pot. All are available at drugstores
If you choose a prefilled bottle, skip this step. Otherwise, you can buy a saline solution powder and follow the directions on the label or make your own. Start with 1-2 cups of warm water that’s distilled, sterile, or that you’ve boiled to help prevent infection. Add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of non-iodized salt and a pinch of baking soda.
If you're using a squeeze bottle, neti pot, or syringe, lean forward over the sink, at about a 45-degree angle. Tilt your head so that one nostril is pointed down toward the sink. Don't tilt your head back.
Place the spout of a neti pot or the tip of a syringe or squeeze bottle just inside your nose. The tip should go in no further than a finger's width. Keeping your mouth open, squeeze the bulb syringe or bottle, or tilt the pot to pour the water into your nostril. Remember to breathe through your mouth, not your nose.
The saltwater will run through your nasal passages and drain out of your other nostril and maybe your mouth. You should spit it out and not swallow it. But if some does go down your throat, it won't hurt you.
Gently blow your nose to clear out the remaining solution. Repeat the procedure with your other nostril. When you're done, throw away any leftover solution and thoroughly clean the items you used. Let them air dry. Store them in a clean, dry place.
Using a saline solution just once a day can help thin mucus, curb postnasal drip, and clean bacteria from your nasal passages. It can also wash out allergens you've inhaled. After their symptoms are gone, some people find three times a week is enough to keep them symptom-free.
Irrigation can benefit people who have sinus problems, nasal allergies, colds, and even flu symptoms. It can help both adults and kids. Some people use it every day to stay symptom-free. You shouldn't use it, though, if you have an ear infection or a nostril that's plugged and hard to breathe through
WHY NASAL IRRIGATION HELPS
The saline solution rinses out your nasal passages. The saltwater also restores moisture and eases inflammation of the mucous membranes that line your sinuses. Tiny hair-like "cilia" in those membranes pass bacteria and other junk to the throat, where you harmlessly swallow them. With less swelling, it’s easier to breathe.

Get What You Paid For
We’ll show you how!
With the start of the new year, you’ve likely envisioned the year ahead and have to-do lists written and goals set. But what about your insurance benefits?
3 TOP TIPS TO USE YOUR INSURANCE WISELY THIS YEAR
1. Plan ahead! Most insurance plans are based on the calendar year, so now is the perfect time to plan your oral care strategy. We’ll review your recall schedule, check your oral health, examine the viability of your restorations, discuss outstanding dental work … and plan the best way forward.
2. Ensure your premiums are not wasted. Always take advantage of your regular preventive dental cleanings and checkups to intercept more-serious,painful, and costly treatments which your insurer may not cover in full.
3. Stage your care. If planning extensive dental work, we can help you financially by staging your treatment(s). But remember #1 … plan early to ensure the timing is right!
5 Ways To Stop The Recession
Gum recession is a common problem, especially for adults over 40. The leading cause? Gum disease, but there are more...
1. Smoking or chewing tobacco products
2. Hormone fluctuations associated with puberty, pregnancy & menopause
3. Over-brushing or brushing with a too-hard toothbrush
4. Mouth piercings
5. The excessive force of grinding, clenching & an uneven bite.
Check your smile regularly and don’t ignore receding gums. The resulting exposure of tooth roots opens the door to root cavities, erosion of tooth structure, and ligament destruction … and possibly tooth loss.
We can treat receding gums to help save your beautiful smile!
You can stay safe when you know the causes and risks.
Are Your Roots Showing?
5 things we can fix to make you smile more

2. Do your tooth roots show due to gum recession or aggressive brushing?
3. Do conspicuous silver-colored fillings show when you smile or laugh?
4. Are your teeth worn down? Irregular in length or shape? Chipped?
5. Is your gumline uneven? Do your teeth look too small?
We can solve these issues in only a visit or two with a variety of solutions

Dispelling Myths About Oral Cancer
I cannot get oral cancer. I don't smoke or drink alcohol.
Oral cancer is a rare disease so my chances of getting it are very small.
I have full dentures. I don't need to go to the dentist regularly.
Oral cancer is for older people. I am young so I do not need to worry about it now.
If I should be diagnosed with oral cancer, it will be easily treated and I will be cured.
Oral cancer is a very common disease affecting over 48,300 people in the United States alone, and this number continues to grow exponentially. Every 60 minutes of every day, someone in the U.S. dies from oral cancer. It is becoming an out-of-control epidemic.
The biggest concern is that two-thirds of all oral cancers are detected at a late stage of the disease, making the average survival rate 50 percent at five years. This overall oral cancer survival rate is worse than almost all cancers that are commonly known.
The goal is to detect early cancer changes in the head, neck and inside of the mouth. This is accomplished through routine oral cancer screening by a dentist for everyone 16 years and older, teeth or no teeth. The earlier oral cancer is detected, the better the chances for limited surgery intervention and a much longer survival rate.
The most important change in recent years is the link between oral cancers and the sexually transmitted human papillomanvirus (HPV). The incidences of oral cancers at the age of 30 or younger have spiked due to the spread of HPV. If a person has never used tobacco nor had a drink of alcohol, the risk of oral cancer is still high if they have had repeated exposure to HPV.
Early detection of oral cancer is the key to reducing invasive surgical procedures and extending survival rates. Early detection is accomplished through routine oral cancer screenings for everyone, beginning at age 16 and continuing throughout the life of the patient. Risk factors still remain from excessive tobacco use or alcohol consumption, although HPV is an explosively growing risk factor for oral cancer. HPV, in the absence of other risk factors, can lead to oral cancer.
