New Dimensions in Health Care is a Medical and Dental clinic located in Amsterdam. New Dimensions in Health Care is a diagnostic and treatment Center operated by Liberty, the Montgomery County Chapter NYSARC.

Liberty established New Dimensions in Health Care (a.k.a. the Health Center) in order to provide a high-quality dental and medical care to patientsโ€”with an emphasis on serving people who require special accommodation. It opened in July, 1996. In the years since New Dimensions in Health Care opened its doors at 40 Wall Street, Amsterdam, thousands of individuals with disabilities and other people in need in the community have received dental services at this Article 28 clinic. Our community has always been fortunate to have many outstanding dental and medical providers, yet the services offered by New Dimensions were developed to address a very specific area of need for individuals with disabilities and other under served populations. In the area of dental services, prior to 1996, it was necessary to transport a significant number of individuals with developmental disabilities, especially people in wheelchairs, to the Capital District to receive the specialized dental services they required. Often a trip to the dentist would take up a whole day, with transportation to and from Albany, waiting time and the actual time of the service. In reality, it was not uncommon for people with disabilities and older patients to forego dental care, because they were unable to find a participating Medicaid/Medicare provider able to meet their specific needs in the immediate area or transportation to appointments was an issue. The existence of New Dimensions has alleviated that problem for many individuals. On the medical side, the Health Center has provided podiatry services to eligible patients since it opened. In 2014, the center engaged the services of a full-time on-site Physician's Assistant in order to meet the growing need in the community. The center also contracts with physicians in the specialty areas of Neurology and Pediatric Neurology Psychiatry, primarily to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities served by the center. The staff at New Dimensions in Health Care emphasize the importance of building a personal connection with every patient. The ultimate goal is to provide positive reinforcement and make patients feel comfortable, making it more likely that they will continue to prioritize their all-important medical and dental care. New Dimensions in Health Care has had a positive impact on so many lives over the years. If you would like to learn more about the services provided, please call 518.843.2575.

Operating as usual

Today we'd like to recognize our hardworking Medical Office Clerk Sue Cary as part of National Health Center Week (NHCW)! ๐Ÿ’ปโ˜Ž๏ธ

Sue has been extremely busy during the COVID-19 pandemic. She's held her own at the front desk of New Dimensions in Health Care (NDHC) over the last few months, with limited help. Her busy days consist of answering numerous phone calls, screening patients over the phone for the coronavirus then screening anyone who walks into the building by taking their temperature and doing a COVID-19 symptom check.

Sue thinks health centers, particularly health centers similar to NDHC, should be recognized annually.

"If we weren't here to serve the populations that we do, then nobody would," Sue said. "It's necessary. If we didn't see our patients for their emergencies, then nobody would. They'd fall through the cracks and wouldn't be taken care of. That's why each of us is here; it's why we all do what we do."

Thank you for everything you do, Sue! #NationalHealthCenterWeek2020 #NHCW2020

As part of National Health Center Week (NHCW), we'd like to recognize our dedicated and passionate medical program at New Dimensions in Health Care (NDHC)! ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’‰

"I am honored to be part of the comprehensive team here at NDHC," Nurse Practioner Tracy Kuban said. "As part of the medical team at our health care center, I am proud to be able to provide primary care services to the disabled population, as well as our community patients throughout the lifespan. NDHC is such a special facility because we all work together to meet the multiple health care needs of our patients. We are able to offer several specialties under one roof, which also allows us to develop a strong provider-patient relationship."

"It's important to recognize health centers, particularly those like NDHC, because we have multiple specialties and we see underserved populations in this community," RN Care Manager Jennifer Hayes said. "Tracy is particularly great here at NDHC because she goes out of her way to get patients through the door no matter what - and you don't normally see that anywhere else."

Thank you for everything you do, medical team!

This week, New Dimensions in Health Care (NDHC) is celebrating National Health Center Week (NHCW)!

NHCW is an annual celebration with the goal of raising awareness about the mission and accomplishments of Americaโ€™s health centers over the past five decades.

NDHC has been part of the Amsterdam, NY community for 24 years. Our primary focus is to provide medical & dental services to individuals served by Liberty ARC and similar agencies in the surrounding area. Throughout the years the health centerโ€™s services have grown due to the lack of local providers accepting Medicaid-eligible, uninsured and underinsured patients; ensuring our patients and the communityโ€™s needs are met.

NDHC also cares for patients with no insurance and those who are underinsured, providing these patients with a sliding scale fee that is reduced for individuals with the inability to pay full price for their medical care.

Today we'd like to recognize our hardworking, dedicated dental program! ๐Ÿฆท

"It is my pleasure to be part of National Health Center Week here at NDHC," Chief of Dentistry Dr. Michael Vuotto, DDS, said. "Our dynamic team works with Medicaid and Medicaid Managed Care to better serve our community and disabled population of all ages with the highest quality oral health care. We also follow and implement the latest ADA and CDC guidelines in infection control to provide the safest environment for our patients and staff. It is an honor and a privilege to serve this community with the best dental and preventive care that would otherwise be unaffordable to them."

"Our health center fills a need in this community that other offices don't," Supervising Dental Assistant Caitlin Northrop said. "We serve a population that other offices don't cover. That's why it's so important to recognize health centers like ours."

"We serve such a large cross-sectional population that might not have access to health care and would go under the radar if we weren't here," Dr. Subrata Mukherjee, DDS, said.

Thank you for everything you do, dental team!

We're proud of you, Paula! Awesome job! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ’›

Liberty ARC would like to give a special shout out to Paula Hawkins! ๐Ÿ’›

Paula typically works as a dental hygenist at our health center, New Dimensions In Health Care (NDHC), however, when NDHC was only open for emergency procedures due to COVID-19 precautions, Paula volunteered to help at a Liberty residence.

Paula completed a fast track training class in order to help out in a home. She was then assigned to a residence where she met Residential Manager Sharon Richards and residents Mark, Allan and Violet.

"Paula is such a delight!" Sharon said. "Paulaโ€™s super personality and attitude was perfect for this home. Allan, Mark and Violet really enjoyed getting to know Paula. Paula helped with all of the activities that were scheduled and even did some of her own crafts with Violet."

Paula had a special connection with everyone in the home, especially Violet.

"While Paula was here, Violet really came out of her shell and we got to see how creative and artistic she is," Sharon said. "Violet, Allan and Mark made some really great cards to send to the nursing home where Paulaโ€™s mom is. They were a hit and really brightened up their day. Also, because of the relationship that Paula created with Violet, Violet decided to change dental providers so she could see Paula at New Dimensions. Trusts and bonds were created during this COVID-19 pandemic that will last forever!! Paula told me it was one of the best experiences she has had, and she said if we ever needed her to cover for a few hours she is available!"

Way to go, Paula! #IamLiberty #StrongerTogether #MontgomeryCountyNY #LibertyARCCOVIDDiaries

We'd like to give a special shout out to our administrative assistants here at New Dimensions in Health Care (NDHC) -- Glorian Sostre & Sue Cary.

Sue has worked at NDHC for nearly a year. Her favorite aspect of her job is "interacting with the patients."

Glorian has only been with us for two months, but in that time she's already become a part of our NDHC family. Her favorite aspect of her position is the "teamwork."

Glorian and Sue have very important roles at NDHC because they are the first people to interact with patients or anyone visiting/calling the facility. We rely on them every day & we appreciate their hard work.

Thank you Glorian & Sue!๐Ÿ’›
