Operating as usual

[05/15/21]   I wish to announce the arrival of a fine young dentist to Amesbury Family Dental. His name is Dr. David Huynh (pronounced Win). He has taken the reins from Dr. Katerina. Some of you have already had the pleasure of meeting him this past week as I myself have. I have found him to be very professional, kind, and compassionate and have no doubt that anyone seeking to find what they had with me, will continue to have that with Dr. David, as you may address him.
In addition to the welcome to Amesbury, I also have seen photos of Dr. Dave’s dental artistry. He does incredible work! I want to say we are all very fortunate that he has arrived. He will certainly be my dentist as well! Having MaryGrace alongside of him, Christine and Kelly doing fabulous hygiene, with Kelsey and Cora managing the front office with their friendly and competent professionalisms, I can think of no other place to be for all my dental needs.

[12/17/20]   I guess that I have to say it with certainty to everyone, that I have officially retired from dentistry. It's been a wonderful 39 year journey. I will miss everyone and hope that you will try my successor. Her name is Dr. Katerina Chernykhivska. She is very
talented and I believe will keep the family oriented approach
to general practice going strong. I am proud to pass the baton onto her. Please be safe during these times and know that our dental practice will continue to be a safe and quality oriented place to have your dental work performed.

This is what we have been waiting for. This is an aerosol vacuum attached to an air purifier. It will capture all aerosols escaping from dental procedure and circulate them through 2 filters. The viruses and bacteria in the aerosols get totally zapped to death. I am ready to treat patients. We are waiting for 2 more machines to arrive next month for our hygienists so that they can deliver high quality hygiene care without worry for themselves and for you.
I will let everyone know when when they arrive. In the meantime Rita will rebook those patients who had to cancel out in March, April, May, and June and needing to get back into the flow. Because of the restricted number of persons allowed in at one time we will stagger the scheduling to allow for thorough disinfection of operatory rooms. Please be patient and remember to go to our website, Amesburyfamilydental.com to read about the new safety protocols and to download, print, and fill out the COVID-19 forms.
See you soon.

I want to announce that around July 20th, we will be back to being fully open. I have been seeing patients on an emergency basis on Wednesdays.
I expect to be performing hygiene services by hygienists around the 20th of July.
I am in the midst of getting aerosol vacuum machines which will capture aerosol droplets from procedures requiring a drill, laser, and ultrasonic scaling. These machines trap all particles by a process of strong vacuum and several filters killing all germs and viruses before they can spread, rendering them harmless and thus purifying the air in each treatment room. We are also installing a central air purification system into our HVAC system which will make the air very clean by a method called cold plasma ionization. Our staff will be wearing a lot more PPE to keep themselves and everyone safe.
I believe that once all systems are in place, we will have one of the safest offices anywhere. We are also instituting a new protocol for patient routing into and out of our office. To learn more, please visit our website, Amesburyfamilydental.com. There you may download and fill out necessary forms prior to your next office visit. We are committed to our patients’ well being, not just dentally but physically and systemically as well. I look forward to when this crisis ends, but until then we will stay the safe course while continuing to provide you with quality care.
Looking forward to seeing you at your next appointment. Stay well.

Replacement of stained composite veneers with beautiful, natural porcelain ones. What can I do for you!

[11/23/17]   Fractured tooth syndrome. Have you ever bit down on that piece of bone in your hamburger or the rogue olive pit in the supposed pitted olive ?? Shortly thereafter, you notice it's suddenly cold sensitive and whenever you bite down on something with a little toughness, you get pain when you release your bite on it. It then becomes a game of avoidance and you are just hoping it goes away. A month later you still find you can't bite on it. Cold sensitivity worsens with each mistaken bite on the tooth. You have a fractured cusp and it is probably next to that old silver filling that's been in there since the Gulf War. It's time to make a move to your dentist. Things can get worse. If you break the cusp below the gum level, it just hangs there like a hangnail and now desperation sets in because it's a holiday weekend or you are going to Disney World in 2 days. Moral of this story is, don't put this off. the sooner it is taken care of the more you cut your losses. Breaking the cusp below the gum level requires a periodontal procedure called a crown lengthening and adds cost that could be avoided. If the fracture involves the tooth's nerve chamber, well throw in a root canal on top of all that. Fix it properly before that all happens and you will reduce your costs and minimize your chair time.

Are you wearing orthodontic retainer trays or splints?

Something you must know is that these trays must be toothbrushes on the inner side that rests on the chewing surfaces of your teeth every night. Food and debris will allow the bacteria to flourish and actually cause decay on the top surfaces of your molars.

I recommend using a Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush to clean the insides of retainers and night guards as well so that they don't push food and bacteria into the crevices of your molar teeth. Also of course make sure your teeth are thoroughly brushed before replacing the retainers back on your teeth.

For those you who love to sip iced coffee all morning long with or without sugar, consider this.

The ph of your oral environment will remain in acid mode for however many minutes or hours you are nursing that iced coffee. Multiply that by 7 days/week, 4 1/3 weeks/month, 12 months/year and voila, your cavity rate goes up 20-50%.

Acid-loving bacteria flourish in that environment and they produce more acid that eats into the enamel layer. So if you must drink coffee, after every other sip, swish and swallow some water. The acid will be diluted and you will be more hydrated thus counter- acting the dry mouth effects of the caffeine. Dry mouth, acid and sugar - all bad for the oral cavity.
