We maintain a second office in Boone at 703 8th Street at the intersection of 8th and Green Streets. Welcome to Thomas M. Stark, DDS, MSD
Dr. Thomas M.
Stark and his team provide advanced orthodontic care, with a personal touch. We care about you as a person, not just straightening your teeth! It will be our honor to help you achieve a lifetime of beautifully healthy smiles, and become your friends in the process. Ours is a quality-oriented and family-friendly practice, where we get to know and treat our patients as we would our own family member
Operating as usual
Cindy and I hosted our annual Stark family reunion at Twin Lakes this weekend. Nothing better than family, and mine is the Best! Sister Julie surprised us with a Cameo greeting from Brock Purdy!
Playing golf at Twin Lakes with our 3 grandsons visiting from Milwaukee. Too much fun!

Having the honor of hooding our youngest son Mikey at his dental school graduation was one of the proudest moments of my life. So excited for Mikey and Taylor as they are off to Dallas for his ortho residency and her dental practice. We are all so blessed!
What a special weekend, as our entire family gathered for Theodore Robert Stark's baptism at The Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. Pure joy!
Blessed to officially meet Theodore Robert Stark and get to watch John and Kirsten as awesome first time parents!
37 years later, our youngest son Mikey will be following my footsteps and attend the Baylor/Texas A&M orthodontic program! So proud, so excited, so blessed!
Theodore Robert Stark was born on Nov 25th to our son John and his lovely wife Kirsten. We were extra blessed this Thanksgiving!
The celebration never gets old! Congratulations to Tatum; thanks Tracy and Dutch Oven Bakery!
Cindy and I had a great time cheering on the Cyclones to a big win against Oklahoma Saturday night!
38 years ago today, she said 'I do.' I am the luckiest guy in the world!
Orthodontic Assistants Appreciation Week is June 1-5, 2020! More than ever, I truly appreciate these lovely ladies and how they make coming to work every day rewarding and fun. They have been especially awesome while we continue to adjust to our new normal, focused on keeping everyone healthy and safe.
We are BACK! Governor Reynolds just issued a new mandate that allows dental offices to carefully reopen, and for us to see our regular ortho patients starting today, Friday May 8th. My wife Cindy and I both had tears in our eyes when we heard the great news!
The Governor's proclamation wisely requires that our dental offices have adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow the guidelines set forth by the Iowa Dental Board.
In that regard, you will definitely notice some changes in our office -- all designed to keep you and our wonderful staff healthy and safe. Health questionnaires, no touch thermometer, limited entry, staggered schedules, social distancing, gowns, masks, face shields, sneeze guards and hand sanitizer will all be part of our new normal. But what hasn't changed is our commitment to you, and our gratitude for your trust in us.
Sometimes we don't realize the extent of our blessings until they have been taken away. I understand now more than ever how much I love being an orthodontist, and how grateful I am to get to do what I get to do. The wait is over, time to start smiling again!
Well, she did it again. Governor Kim Reynolds just extended the date when we can first start seeing our regular orthodontic patients from April 30th until May 16th. Bummer! We were so excited to get back into the office and resume treating our wonderful patients in a super safe manner. This latest extension of dental office closures was a surprise and a disappointment. But Governor Reynolds has a tough job and she has had to make a number of difficult decisions and we certainly respect and support her efforts to keep us all safe.
In the meantime, we have been updating our infection control procedures and gathering the needed PPE to do our part to keep everyone safe. I sense a momentum shift in our State and our Country as we go on the offensive to battle this evil virus. And I know we are going to win! Wishing you all God's choicest blessings, and we can't wait to see your smiling faces back at 1212 Duff Avenue...soon!
As you may well know, Governor Reynolds has now extended the date when we can see our regular orthodontic patients through April 30th. This COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking profound havoc on our world, and our prayers go out to everyone who has been personally affected -- to some degree, all of us.
Please know that we are still here for you. Your health and dental well-being are our highest priority! We are available by phone from 8am until noon Monday through Friday, and we will be happy to take care of any orthodontic emergency creating pain, swelling or discomfort.
I am also available by phone or video conference to address any treatment issue that is of concern for you. Just contact our office to set up a time for us to connect.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we will be calling in the days ahead to reschedule your April appointments.
To be honest with you all, I am quite concerned. For my family, my patients, my staff, my friends and our entire society and world. But I have the faith to know that when we put our faith and trust in God, He will lead us through this dark valley to the happier days ahead. Be safe, be well, stay healthy and keep smiling!
Well, Governor Reynolds has pushed back the date when we can start seeing our regular orthodontic patients from April 6 to April 17th. The health and well-being of our patients and our staff is of paramount importance, and we fully support the Governor's decision. But I will admit, this social distancing stuff is really getting old! I miss you all and can't wait to get back to 'normal' or the new normal, as soon as we can. I am blessed to know you are part of our orthodontic family, and as a family we will get through this, together!
We will be following the IDA and ADA guidelines and will not be seeing regular patients in our office for the next 3 weeks. We will still be open and available for minor wire pokes or other orthodontic emergencies.
My dad fought in WWII and the Korean War as part of the Greatest Generation. Hopefully our collective response to the COVID-19 challenge will measure up to the standard they set. I believe we can!
Sending sincere prayers to everyone adversely affected by this pandemic. May God bless us all!
Cindy and I had the best time last weekend, hosted by my sister Julie, at the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital Gala in Indianapolis! Brothers Steve and David and their wives tagged along, making the weekend an absolute delight. Front row for the Brett Eldredge concert was cool, too!
Nana and Papa really enjoyed celebrating Robbie's 4th birthday in Milwaukee this weekend!
Once again, our office Christmas party at Aunt Maude's was a huge success. My staff said 'Dr. Tom, wear your holiday finest this year'...so I did!
'Papa' is pretty much my favorite title, and these 3 little treasures are why!
Change. I don't like it at all, but sometimes things happen regardless of what I like. I am honestly quite sad to announce that my wonderful orthodontic assistant Olivia will be leaving soon to pursue a new career with Hertz Farm Management in Nevada. After 8 fabulous years in my office, Olivia tells me her 'quarter life crisis' has led her to go in a new and completely different direction. And my awesome dental hygienist Linda has announced that she plans to retire at the end of this year, after 27+ terrific years of helping me to reveal our patient's beautiful smiles on the day we take their braces off. Gosh, we are really going to miss Olivia and Linda's happy faces around the office, but we sincerely wish them the very best in this next chapter of their lives!
Please help us to welcome Colleen as our newest Certified Dental Assistant! Colleen was a former patient of mine as a teenager, and we are thrilled that she is coming 'home' to what she says has always been her dream job, and to share her joy with all of us. I am also pleased to let you know that our other lovely part time dental hygienist, Allison, is going to take on an expanded role to help fill Linda's big shoes. From time to time, you may also see another long-time dental hygiene favorite Susan gracing us with her presence. I am blessed beyond measure to get to work with such amazing ladies on a daily basis!
Our middle son Steve married the lovely Ms. Anna Moorse in Minneapolis this past weekend. What an epic celebration of Faith, family and friends! Our hearts are full...

Had the privilege of hearing Coach Campbell speak yesterday in Ames at the "Charlie's Angels" Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser. Two inspiring stories -- little Charlie's brave fight against CF; and Coach Campbell's passion for changing young men's lives.
