Have a enjoyable and safe Fourth of July weekend!

Our office will be closed on Friday, July 3rd.

Gross, right?!

Our hygienist, Deb, became a grandma to grandson #2 over the weekend! Congratulations!

It's the big 3-OH for our wonderful dental assistant! Happy Birthday Stephenie!

Happy birthday to our fabulous hygienist, Deb! Enjoy your day!

It's gonna be a HOT one today!

Quench your thirst with water instead of soda. Soda damages your teeth. The sugar in soda coats your teeth, combining with bacteria in your mouth to form acid. Both regular and diet soda also contain carbolic acid through carbonation. These acids work to weaken tooth enamel, causing cavities and tooth decay.

Congratulations to all of the teachers and students on finishing another school year! We wish you a safe and fun summer break!

Happy Friday from all of us at Adams Dental Clinic!

Happy Tuesday!

It's hard to fight crime with a toothache. ;)

[03/12/15]   Dental floss was first manufactured in 1882 #tbt. Fun fact...if you floss once a day, you will use about 5 miles of floss over your lifetime!

There are several options available for flossing: 1) traditional string floss, 2) floss picks, 3) floss handles, and 4) water flossers. No matter what type of floss you prefer the American Dental Association recommends that you floss once a day.

Pig's hair was used in toothbrushes until 1938, when nylon bristles were introduced. #tbt Whether your toothbrush has pig hair bristles or nylon bristles be sure to brush your teeth two times a day! 01/28/2015

Happy Halloween! Be sure to stop by the Adams Dental Clinic when you are out trick-or-treating.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends you brush your teeth twice a day. When you brush your teeth, you help remove food and plaque (a sticky film that forms on your teeth and contains bacteria.) When you floss you help remove plaque from the areas between your teeth where the toothbrush can't reach. This is important because plaque that is not removed by brushing and flossing can eventually harden into calculus or tartar. Flossing also helps prevent gum disease and cavities.

There is a right way to brush! Proper brushing takes at least two minutes — that's right, 120 seconds! Most adults do not come close to brushing that long. To get a feel for the time involved, try using a stopwatch. Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. Gently move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes. Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth. To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes. Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

Happy Dental Hygiene Month! Did you know as far back as the 1880’s, dental nurses have assisted dentists but the concept for what we know as dental hygienist have been around since the early 1900s?

Concerned that too many of his patients lost teeth to cavities and disease, Dr. Alfred Civilion Fones trained Irene Newman as an apprentice to provide preventive dental cleanings. He didn’t care for the term dental nurses, so he changed it to dental hygienist. Dr. Fones’ training was so successful that in 1913 he opened a school of dental hygiene.

Today, dental hygienists are trained, licensed professionals. They must fulfill a set of requirements and graduate from an accredited dental hygiene school. Additionally, they must pass a written and clinical exam administered by the American Dental Association’s Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations.

Brushing your teeth for two to three minutes at least twice a day, flossing your teeth at least once a day, and visiting Adams Dental Clinic reduces your risk of cavities and periodontal disease, which is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.
