Operating as usual

[05/07/20]   Carr Family Dentistry in Aberdeen continues to be temporarily closed for all non emergency and elective dental treatment. This is due to a lack of available personal protective equipment and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control as outlined below. Please stay safe and we hope to see you soon!

Interim Infection Prevention and Control Guidance for Dental Settings During the COVID-19 Response

Key Concepts:
* Dental settings have unique characteristics that warrant additional infection control considerations.
* Postpone elective procedures, surgeries, and non-urgent dental visits.

The practice of dentistry involves the use of rotary dental and surgical instruments such as handpieces or ultrasonic scalers and air-water syringes. These instruments create a visible spray that contains large particle droplets of water, saliva, blood, microorganisms, and other debris. This spatter travels only a short distance and settles out quickly, landing on the floor, nearby operatory surfaces, dental healthcare providers, or the patient. The spray also might contain certain aerosols. Surgical masks protect mucous membranes of the mouth and nose from droplet spatter, but they do not provide complete protection against inhalation of airborne infectious agents.
There are currently no data available to assess the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission during dental practice or to determine whether dental healthcare providers are adequately protected when providing dental treatment using Standard Precautions. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for COVID-19, places dental healthcare providers in the very high exposure risk category, as their jobs are those with high potential for exposure to known or suspected sources of the virus that causes COVID-19 during specific procedures.
When practicing in the absence of Airborne Precautions, the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission during aerosol generating dental procedures cannot be eliminated.

Postpone Elective Procedures, Surgeries, and Non-urgent Dental Visits
Services should be limited to emergency visits only during this period of the pandemic. These actions help staff and patients stay safe, preserve personal protective equipment and patient care supplies, and expand available health system capacity.

[03/16/20]   Statement on COVID-19
A message from Carr Family Dentistry, Aberdeen

Our community is facing an unprecedented challenge with the rapidly spreading COVID-19 coronavirus. At Carr Family Dentistry, our top priority is, and has always been, the safety of our patients and co-workers. During our 39 year history in this community, we have always considered each of you as our family.
We want to reassure our patients and the community that Carr Family Dentistry has always taken the precautions recommended by the CDC as applied to our dental profession.
The CDC and Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA) are now recommending that dental practices help limit the exposure and spread of the coronavirus by postponing elective dental procedures. At this time, for the well-being of our patients and our community, Carr Family Dentistry will be suspending non-emergency patient treatment. We anticipate an initial 3 week period of deferment, although this is a rapidly changing situation and the CDC and MSDA will give us guidance on the exact timing of the return to regular dental care.
If you have an urgent dental care need, we will consult with you to determine the best course of action.

In the words of our Governor Larry Hogan:
“It is impossible to know how long this threat will continue. Every single one of us do our part to stop this deadly virus from spreading.”

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these uncertain times.
It has been our privilege to serve the community for decades and we look forward to continuing that tradition of excellence in dental care for years to come.

Did you know that February is National Children's Oral Health Month?

Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children's Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.

Carr Family Dentistry values every patient from every age. We believe that everyone is entitled to a happy and healthy smile! It is with great excitement that we announce we are now a participating provider for Maryland Healthy Smiles!!!! Now any child 20 and younger who is already enrolled in a state funded medical insurance plan is eligible to become a patient at Carr Family Dentistry! Share this post and help us let our community know that great care for children is right here in our own backyard!

Quality dental care is essential to ensure a child’s overall well-being. Tooth decay remains the single most common chronic disease among children. Untreated decay affects 19.5% of 2 to 5 year olds and 22.9% of 6 to 19 year olds. Dental disease can impact all aspects of children’s lives, from their nutrition and sleep habits to their educational performance and self-esteem.

Should you have any questions regarding this insurance plan or any of the other major PPO plans we are in network with please give us a call. We LOVE hearing from our community!
