Edward Byrne Associates

We are a Family Dental Practice in Bedford which aims to give a high level of personal service. The practice was first established in 1932 by Mr.

Cyril Ingrouille ( BDS U.Liverpool ) and has a long record of being a caring and professional organisation. Edward Byrne has been in charge of the Bedford dental practice since 1980 and is proud to continue the strong professional tradition established by Mr. Ingrouille. We have four full time dental surgeons, Edward Byrne, Andrew Robertson, Stuart Sumner and Mai Meisters, two dental hygienists, Laura Albone, Debbie Wakelin and a team of highly experienced and qualified dental nurses, all sharing the same goal of providing high quality, personal dental care in a relaxing, friendly environment.

Operating as usual

[07/22/20]   Our Dental Practice was closed, as were all others, by order of the Chief Dental Officer of the Department of Health due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

We now have a backlog of 10 weeks of appointments that were cancelled, in addition to a backlog of new emergencies that developed during Coronavirus lockdown to catch up on.

Although we reopened on June 10th, in order to ensure everyone’s safety, all dental practices have adopted “new ways of working” and this has seriously reduced the number of available appointments overall.

Delays are inevitable.

We simply cannot see patients “back to back” as in the past, and surgeries need regular cleaning down between patients throughout the day.

It is anticipated within the dental profession that it will be some time before the shortage of available appointments changes and it is likely that practices will continue to face these challenges for the rest of the year.

We thank you for your understanding and as always, we will do our best to support our patients during these difficult times.

Snapshot from The Times the other day.
Now that someone with Royal Family connections has experience of a dental problem will the powers to be reconsider their original decisions and re-empower dental practice for emergencies ?

[05/06/20]   Professor Mike Lewis (Cardiff University) says that "Most toothpastes and mouthwashes contain detergents with anti-viral qualities, similar to those in hand sanitisers, which could impact the ability of the virus to spread. Spending four minutes a day on cleaning your teeth, has never been so important. "
Clearly, excellent oral hygiene has never been so important.

I am blessed to have so many lovely and wonderfully appreciative patients.
This lady, retired and looking after a rather ill husband, loves sewing. She presented us with these two place mats, one for me, one for my nurse.
Then she brought two more in for our hygienist and her nurse.
Then some more for the reception team.
She said that she will happily make some more for other staff that she might have missed !
They are all slightly different and individual.
I told her that with her sewing skills, and a National shortage of face masks, that she could be making a lot of money on e-bay.
One celebrity has paid £50 for a 'posh' face mask.
A HEPA filter from a vacuum cleaner, a bit of Fabric each side and a couple of ribbons to tie, her artistic skills added, how much do you reckon they could sell for ?
However, happiness comes from giving, and not from receiving.
She is happy and I am so happy that we have given enough to make her so happy.

Casualty brings back memories

Some say that Casualty is brilliant and probably at it's peak right now. The last two episodes were the best ?
I am so proud because my niece Fiona Stainer is the script editor for Casualty.
Congratulations Fiona !
However, the passing of Duffy brings back memories.
Our wonderful nurse Jo Reveglia say passed away on 4th June 2018 leaving a young daughter and a loving husband behind, and not least some loving parents.
Jo you will be for ever in our thoughts.
Casualty just seems to bring so many real issues to the forefront.

Tooth decay is the number one reason 5 to 9 year olds are admitted to hospital in the UK. 9/10 tooth extractions were entirely preventable. #SugarAwarenessWeek is an opportunity for us all to make small changes to reduce the amount of sugar we’re eating every day. We support Action on Sugar in asking manufacturers to reduce sugar in their products, Action on Sugar want to see clear nutrition labelling on all food and drink items whether we’re shopping in a supermarket, in a café or online.

Well said Nick Atkins. Exactly our thoughts.

[06/04/19]   Our thoughts are with the family and friends of our much loved work colleague and dear friend Jo Reveglia, who sadly passed away one year today.

Jo will be forever in our hearts and missed by us all.

Congratulations to our dental nurse Charlotte and her partner Ollie on the safe arrival of their gorgous little fella Jenson, who was born 31/03/19 weighing a healthy 8lbs 13oz. Congratulations to you both and to Jenson's big sister Ella.

Triathlon for Bedford dental nurse in memory of colleague who suffered thrombosis

bedfordtoday.co.uk A dental nurse has taken her focus from teeth to trainers and completed a gruelling triathlon in memory of a much-loved colleague.

Hollie Mills completed the Olympic Season Finale Triathlon at Dorney Lake in Windsor. She has raised a staggering £5,885.00 to date in the aid of Thrombosis UK Charity, in memory of our Jo.

Jo was our much loved work colleague who suddenly and tragically lost her life to thrombosis in June this year.

We are all so proud of you Hollie.

Our dental nurse Hollie will be competing in an olympic distance triathlon on september 16th in memory of our dental nurse Jo Reveglia who sadly passed away very suddenly last month.

Hollie is raising money and awarness for the charity Thrombosis UK. Please take a look at Hollie's just giving page for more information on what shes taking part in and why.

We thank you all for your time and support :)

[06/15/18]   As a mark of respect, Edward Byrne Associates Dental Practice will be closed on Monday 25th June to allow everyone to attend the funeral of our much loved and respected Dental Nurse, Jo Reveglia.
Just in case, emergency arrangements for patients will be in place.
Jo died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday 3rd June.
Last October, Jo participated in a Denplan initiative with our practice team in a “mud run” fund raising event to raise money for the Children’s charity “Make a Wish”. Sadly, now her 7 year old daughter has a wish which nobody can fulfil, that is for “Mummy to come home.”
Jo, you will be forever in our thoughts and our prayers. R.I.P.

How much sugar is in your breakfast cereal?

The cereal that contains the most amount of sugar is Aldi Haverst Morn Choco Rice (39g per 100g)

And the cereal that contains the least amount of sugar is Nestle Shredded Wheat (0.7g per 100g)

The NHS advises adults not to exceed more than 30-grams of added sugar a day (about 9 sugar cubes) and children should not have more than 19-grams (4-6 sugar cubes)

Could you choose a healthier option to start your day?

Petition: Introduce mandatory fluoridation of the water supply to prevent tooth decay

Fluoride in the water supply will reduce dental decay by 30%.
Multiple Dental Extractions is the most common reason for a child to be admitted to hospital.
42,911 operations in 2016-17, and that's just hospitals !
Please consider signing this petition :

t.co Tooth decay is almost entirely preventable, but is the most common reason why children aged 5 to 9 require hospital admission. Water fluoridation is an effective public health measure proven to reduce tooth decay. Centrally funded and mandated water fluoridation is needed to protect our oral health.
